Richard was one of the founders of the Castletown Group in 1998. A trusted and well respected advisor with over 25 years’ experience, Richard designs risk management and insurance solutions by developing a nuanced understanding of clients’ operations and working closely to achieve their risk management and financial ambitions. 

Since establishing Castletown Group, Richard has worked as the Client and New Business Director, cultivating a wide range of experience and an excellent record of achieving cost effective insurance structures to develop and meet the needs of a global client base.  

Richard holds a BA (Hons) degree in Law & Psychology from Oxford Brookes University and a BSc (Hons) degree in Financial Services from UMIST (University of Manchester Institute of Science & Technology). 

After graduating with his first degree, Richard joined KPMG in its specialist insurance department. In 1990, he moved to AIG (Europe) Limited, first as a Political Risk Underwriter, then as Senior Underwriter for Trade Credit. In 1995, Richard moved to the Isle of Man working in the offshore insurance sector. 

Richard is an Associate of the Chartered Institute of Bankers (AICB) and was Chairman of the Isle of Man Captive Association.

Nick has been working with the Castletown Group since 2006. With 22 years’ experience in the Energy, Risk Management and Insurance sectors and a strong linguist, Nick has lived and worked internationally for many years servicing the needs of large multinationals primarily in Oil and Gas.  He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to the Group. 

Nick joined the Castletown Group to assist in developing our business and offering additional technical expertise to our clients.  

Nick was awarded a 1st Class Hons degree from a UK university in Russian and Economics with International Business Studies and holds a Chartered Institute of Management Accountants Certificate in Business Accounting, CIMA Cert BA. He is also an Associate Member of the Chartered Institute of Linguists (BSc ACIL). He is currently undertaking the Investment Management Certificate (IMC) of the CFA Society, UK. 

Having left the British Army Intelligence Corps in 1992, Nick worked in the Oil and Gas sector in the Former Soviet Union. After three years he joined the Board of Directors of a London based Oil and Gas insurance consultancy during which time he secured contracts with leading oil and gas groups in the Caspian Region. In 2000, Nick formed his own risk management and insurance consultancy company which he later sold and joined Marsh as Senior Vice President and Regional Energy Director, CIS region. Since 2006 he has been an insurance advisor to high profile multinational clients during which time he has worked extensively with the Castletown Group.

Originally from Dublin Ireland, Ann Marie came to the Isle of Man in 1991.  Having been educated in Ireland, she complemented her training with various International Diploma Courses at the Isle of Man College.  She worked in various administration and management roles in the Island before joining Castletown Risk Services in 2012 as a Risk Administrator.

Ann Marie was promoted to Account Executive in 2016 and undertakes a range of activities in the active management of our clients.  This involves her working in underwriting where she collates underwriting data and maintains underwriting spreadsheets used in making submissions to underwriters.  She is also active in the production of insurance documentation and debit notes.  Ann Marie also works in the area of claims, ensuring client claims are successfully settled from the markets we use and assists with the implementation of risk management advice to clients.

Cheryl Smith

Originally from South Africa, Cheryl has worked in a number of roles in customer service, marketing and management for a variety of companies both in South Africa and the Isle of Man. She has lived on the Isle of Man since 2004 working for a life insurer and corporate service provider since then. 

Cheryl joined Castletown in January 2017 and manages the day to day running of the office, provides assistance in delivering technical services to our clients and is also responsible for the administration of certain clients and entities within the Group liaising and providing instructions to a variety of service providers.
